Learn with Lace…

Yesterday I dragged my fiancé, Steve, to see some exhibitions in London town and here’s how we got on…

First we headed to the Gagosian Gallery to the Avedon Warhol exhibition.

I honestly do not do this enough but there is something really amazing in seeing screen prints and photographs framed on such a huge scale…to see the texture and quality of the artwork in an open white space creates an amazing impact and is, for me, a little overwhelming…

Both Avedon and Warhol have influenced me artistically…but probably more so Warhol. With his eccentric use of bold colour and repetition…he has and continues to inspire my work today…particularly in my Mr Men series which is due to resume later this year…

“Sometimes something can look so beautiful, just because it’s different in some way from other things around it” – Andy Warhol

We then headed to the British Library to see the Alice in Wonderland Exhibition…YAY!!

A vast collection of books, illustrations and installations depicting Alice’s adventures…I have always been fascinated by the depth and detail in the drawings and the thoughts and ideas that go into creating such an iconic story that goes on to inspire even after 150 years after it first being published…it all makes me feel like a child again…

I think I will be heading there again before the exhibition ends to try and absorb more of the genius and detail on display here at the British Library

It’s definitely not to be missed…

A few fab reviews…

‘Really fascinating. It contains an extraordinary array of Alice-inspired material, from the original manuscript to computer games.’ Four star review– The Telegraph

‘Fantastic free display’ – Londonist

‘A major exhibition of Alice in Wonderland’ – Metro
